Chapter 1: Two  Days Until Opening
“Look!” Adeline cried to her twin sister, Madeline. They were at the toy store, browsing each shelf for the perfect birthday present. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” she slyly asked. “Does it involve combining our allowance  to buy that giant teddy bear?” Madeline asked, gesturing to the stuffed animal section. “No way!” Adeline shrieked. “It involves combining our allowance to buy that dream tent!” Adeline replied, as she indicated toward the playset section. “Seriously?” Madeline uttered. Adeline ignored her sister and held up a pamphlet named ‘New Releases!’ in colorful, bold letters. She flipped through the book and finally held it up. “A big, beautiful area, perfect for your girl to play in. Soundproof. Little assembly required. Travel friendly. For ages 11+. Not to be handled by ages 10 and below.” Adeline read. By the time Adeline looked up from the page, Madeline was strolling through her stuffed animal paradise, clutching a ginormous baby pink teddy bear with both hands, attempting to cradle it like a baby. “Maddy!” Adeline called. Madeline jumped, flabbergasted. “Why in the world are you cradling a big, fat, furry, pink blob?” Adeline inquired. Madeline quickly put the toy back where she found it. “I wasn’t cradling it. Who’s ever heard of someone cradling a stuffed animal?” Madeline stammered, trying to defend herself. Adeline rolled her eyes. Madeline casually walked towards her sister, when she noticed the pamphlet Adeline was inspecting. “What’s that!” she asked, and grabbed it from her twin. “The thing I have been trying to tell you all along.” Adeline muttered. “WOAH! The tent’s so cheap.” Madeline said. “I can even buy my bear. No offense, that is. And I was looking at it, not cradling it.” “Okay sure. We can buy both. Hey, we’ll even have room for a toy of my choice! I choose that Spy Girl Edition 3 doll, the one that is based on the TV show Spy Squad! Of course, I want the one that  comes with the spymobile!” Adeline exclaimed. “Cool, now let's use the separate toys as our gifts and open the tent now.” Madeline said, hugging her bear tightly. “We’re not 11 yet. We need to wait.” Adeline said. “We’re 11 in two days. Our dad can make it and we can just use it till our birthday. TWO DAYS. What can happen in two days. Besides I want to sleep in it the night before our birthday. We’re staying up until midnight anyway!” Madeline said. “That is the power of an M” Adeline sighed. M + Adeline = Madeline, by the way, if you didn’t already know. Madeline was 6 minutes older than Adeline, which gave her higher authority than Adeline for 6 minutes of their birthday. Madeline would get 15 more cents for all the chores she did for 6 minutes, when Adeline would also get more, not that either of them would want to do chores on their birthday. Anyway, they bought the toys and walked home as they quarreled between the official time of opening. Madeline crawled into their room and sat the teddy bear down on her bed, as she gave it a hug. “It's not yours till our birthday. Also, keep in note it's bigger than you.” Adeline said. “It’s bigger than you too, by the way. Besides, I am giving it to myself as an early birthday gift! “ Madeline said lying down on the bed next to the bear. “I’m naming her Rosie!” she declared. “Remember,  the guy at the store said that it is 4 feet 8 inches tall, and I am 4’10.” Adeline said, crawling up to the top of her bunk bed. “You, however, are 4’6, therefore I am taller than the bear.” “Jeez! You’re so precise!” Madeline remarked. There were three bunk beds in the girls’ room. Two of the bunk beds were identical, except for the way the girls had personalized their own. Both were wooden, and had a desk at the bottom. They had a staircase which led them up to an area to play. Their dad had removed the mattresses and boarded in wooden planks instead. He had made a little playhouse on each one, which the girls had recently redecorated. Adeline made hers look like a treehouse, while Madeline attempted to make hers represent a princess castle from one of her favorite books. It turned out looking like a creepy pink house, but Madeline admired it anyhow. Both the bunks were at the opposite corners of the room, separated by the third bed. It was wooden, like the others, but had two beds instead. However, It wasn’t like the room was full. It was a giant room in a giant house. With plenty of room for a tent. Madeline thought. Why was the room so big you may wonder. Long story short, it was meant to be an attic, before the previous house owners wanted an entire empty floor with no walls for an indoor garden. The twins’ parents had added a bathroom on the side, so they had the whole third floor for themselves. Oh, and the boxes. There were boxes with stuff all the previous owners left behind stacked in one corner. The perfect tent corner! Madeline thought. “No Madeline, we are not throwing away the boxes.” Adeline said as they both glanced at the box corner, and then at each other. “There’s all kinds of cool stuff in there! The boxes will never end and there are useful things like DVD’s, and remember that broken gaming console we got fixed and put in the living room?” “Yes! Oh and all the beautiful abandoned stuffed animals!” Madeline piped up. “Besides we get half of our allowance from selling the stuff we can’t use! Like that giant pile of dog supplies! Tracey had paid $100 dollars for all of it!” Adeline said. “That had been a huge pile even after we removed the expired bits of dog food.” Madeline agreed. “How about we put it all inside the tent!” she asked. “No way!” Adeline shrieked. “The tent is going to be our area, not the boxes! Besides, there are so many of them that I don’t think they'll even fit in the” she paused, and checked the pamphlet, which she was still holding. “6 feet by 10 feet tent.” she continued. “That’s a lot. We could use the boxes as dividers. Also…” Madeline said. She began digging through the boxes and took out fairy lights and fake holly wreaths. “Decor!” Madeline exclaimed. “Good idea! We can divide the tent into different rooms!” Adeline agreed. They got their dad to make their tent, and went to bed planning for the next day.
