Chapter One: Departing

"Please buckle your seatbelts, the plane is taking off in 2 minutes, 2 minutes everybody!" The flight attendant said as she buckled up, herself. "ZOOOOOOOM" went the plane as it zoomed past the runway. Dotty watched as all the buildings in Tecoma City became smaller and smaller. Dotty was moving to Tecoma Township because she was getting a baby sibling. They needed a bigger house than that tiny apartment they were living in before. Dotty hated the idea of leaving all her friends and family back in Tecoma City. It hadn't even been 5 minutes on the plane and Dotty started to miss the loud screeches of the elevator as she reached her apartment on the 20th floor. Soon Dotty got tired of looking out the window, all she could see were clouds. She decided to take a little nap. Just as Dotty started to put on her eye mask and her neck pillow, a little girl, about her age, came strolling down the aisles. "What's your name?" she asked. "I'm Dotty, what's yours?" Dotty asked. "Ruby, short for Reuba. I hate the name Reuba, so always call me Ruby, okay?" She said. Dotty shrugged. "Hi Reuba, I mean Ruby. Do you want to sit next to me?" Dotty asked. "At least I wouldn't get bored for this 6 - hour flight, she is a chatterbox!" Dotty thought. So, Dotty decided to start up a conversation. She hardly knew this girl, maybe it would be her first friend in Tecoma Township! "Where's your mom?" Dotty asked. "Over there" Ruby said as she pointed to the flight attendant who Dotty had seen before. Dotty's eyes became wide. You are the daughter of the flight attendant? She asked. "Yeah sure!" Ruby said. "I go on a lot of flights."she said like it was no big deal. "I have never had a best friend before." she said. "I live in Tecoma Township." "Really?" Dotty asked in disbelief. "I am moving there!" Dotty exclaimed. "There are lots of people there, really, but there is no one that I can count as my best friend. Just then, another girl came strolling down the aisle. "Oh, and who is that?" Dotty inquired as she took off her eye mask and neck pillow. "Her name is Fantasia" Ruby asked. "She goes to Tecoma-Cleave Elementary, and is in Ms. Lolmy's  class. Ms. Lolmy is the nicest teacher in the world! She throws a party whenever her class is kind for the whole day, and she always-" "Thank you Ruby, I think Dotty has heard enough." Fantasia cut Ruby off.  Ruby rolled her eyes in annoyance, as the flight attendant came walking in her high heels and tight red business suit. " Hi Mom!" Ruby waved. " I can see you have made a new friend" The flight attendant said. "And what is your name, honey?" She asked. " I'm Dotty, nice to meet you." She said. "Oh, such good manners,  I wish Ruby was like that!  Suddenly, there was some air turbulence. "Oh,  I better tell everyone to buckle up their seatbelts!" said Mrs. Miller hurriedly. "Okay Mom, you can go, Fantasia and I will go back to our seats" Ruby said reassuringly. "You sure?" Ruby's mom inquired. "Mo-om! We are 10, you don't have to treat us like four year olds!" Ruby stated playfully. "Oh, okay if you say so, oh, you are growing up so quickly!" She replied sarcastically as she went near the microphone to announce the air turbulence. Dotty watched her new friends as they went back to their seats. Soon Dotty's eyes began to close, before she knew it, she was asleep.
